Video reveals ‘Good Samaritan’ serving to NYPD take down armed suspect

A civilian helped cease an armed suspect Thursday, who was fleeing from law enforcement officials in New York Metropolis.

In keeping with the U.S. Lawyer’s Workplace Southern District of New York, the suspect, Jason Fleming, was arrested on March 16 after he brandished loaded firearms in broad daylight after a dispute in a bodega in Chelsea.

The suspect was arrested after a civilian, who noticed him fleeing law enforcement officials with a revolver in his hand, stepped in his approach and pushed him into a close-by fence. The civilian then held onto the suspect till NYPD officers had been in a position to place him beneath arrest, video reveals. 

“As alleged, the defendant illegally brandished two loaded firearms in broad daylight on a Manhattan road, one in all which was a carbine rifle, scary quite a few New Yorkers, together with a baby,” U.S. Lawyer Damian Williams stated. “Due to our legislation enforcement companions and the heroic efforts of a Good Samaritan, the defendant was apprehended earlier than he might harm anybody, and his weapons are actually off the streets.”

A legal grievance alleges that Fleming, a 39-year-old New York resident, entered a crowded bodega within the Chelsea neighborhood in Manhattan after having a verbal dispute with one other man.

The grievance states that Fleming stood within the doorway of the bodega and flashed a handgun as a lady tried to go away. The kid ran from the shop previous Fleming onto the sidewalk. Surveillance video then reveals Fleming outdoors the bodega and pulling again his coat to disclose a rifle that had been swung over his shoulder.

NYPD officers approached Fleming after a witness referred to as 911, and the suspect fled down the sidewalk. 

“Whereas operating, FLEMING brandished a semiautomatic carbine rifle in broad daylight whereas frightened civilians started operating away from him,” the U.S. Lawyer’s Workplace stated in a press launch.

“FLEMING then threw the rifle over a fence close to the place prospects had been eating at a restaurant’s outside eating shed,” authorities stated. Police recovered a loaded semiautomatic Hello-Level carbine rifle from the place the suspect tossed the firearm.

The grievance states that Fleming continued operating down the road, brandishing a revolver in a single hand as law enforcement officials pursued on foot. 

“A close-by civilian, seeing FLEMING operating down the road with a revolver in his hand, stood in FLEMING’s approach and pushed him into a close-by fence after which held onto him till law enforcement officials, who had been nonetheless in pursuit, positioned FLEMING beneath arrest and handcuffed him,” the U.S. Lawyer’s Workplace stated. 

Authorities stated that Fleming was not permitted to own firearms as a result of he has two prior felony convictions for illegal firearms possession. 

Fleming is charged with possession of firearms after a felony conviction, which carries a most sentence of 15 years in jail.
