Michigan juvenile jail administrator fired for allegedly sexually assaulting 12-year-old boy

A high administrator on the Wayne County juvenile jail has been fired amid a sexual assault investigation.

Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility Deputy Director of Administration Mark Roland was fired Friday, the Detroit Free Press reported Friday. He had labored on the facility since September.

The firing comes as officers examine allegations that youths on the facility sexually assaulted a 12-year-old boy on Wednesday. State police are investigating and to date seven staff on the juvenile jail have been suspended.

Roland informed the newspaper that the firing stunned him. He mentioned that as of Thursday he was a part of an enchancment plan.

“I’m simply unsure what made them come to that call,” Roland mentioned. “My hope would have been that they’d have saved the present staff in place for consistency.”

In the meantime on Friday, facility Director Brandon Barber was reassigned to a different county job. Tiffani Jackson, a county spokeswoman, didn’t present his place and the newspaper couldn’t attain Barber for remark.

The Free Press has reported that the jail is overcrowded and understaffed, with juveniles confined to rooms for lengthy intervals and denied showers, recreation, medicine and education.
