Ahmaud Arbery jury to start second day of deliberations

Jurors within the case of three White males charged with the homicide of Ahmaud Arbery are set to start day two of deliberations Wednesday morning in Georgia. 

The jury, comprised of 11 White jurors and one Black juror, reviewed the case for greater than six hours Tuesday after closing arguments. Courtroom will resume at 8:30 a.m. EST.

Travis McMichael, his father, Greg, and their neighbor William ‘Roddie’ Bryan have all been charged with Arbery’s homicide.

The McMichaels instructed police they suspected Arbery was a fleeing burglar after they armed themselves and jumped in a pickup truck to chase him on Feb. 23, 2020. Bryan joined the pursuit after they handed his home and recorded a cellphone video of Travis McMichael capturing Arbery with a shotgun as Arbery threw punches and grabbed for the weapon.

Protection attorneys contend the McMichaels had been trying a authorized citizen’s arrest after they set off after Arbery, searching for to detain and query him as a suspected burglar after he was seen operating from a close-by dwelling underneath building.

Prosecutors mentioned there was no proof Arbery had dedicated crimes within the defendants’ neighborhood. 

“You’ll be able to’t declare self-defense if you’re the unjustified aggressor,” prosecutor Linda Dunikoski instructed jurors in her closing closing arguments. “Who began this? It wasn’t Ahmaud Arbery.”
