A United States Senator has expressed concern to the Division of Transportation concerning the partnership between American Airlines and JetBlue Airways

The partnership between American and JetBlue was introduced in July 2020 and accredited by the Transportation Division six months later. The airways joined forces on Northeast flights and frequent flyer packages to compete with United Airways and Delta Air Strains.
“I write with grave considerations that the current joint partnership between American Airways and JetBlue Airways will result in anticompetitive coordination at key air site visitors hubs and outcome within the long-term inflation of airfares and associated prices for airline passengers,” Senator Blumenthal wrote to U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
Blumenthal additionally cited an govt order signed by President Joe Biden on airline competitors in July and requested the Division of Transportation to conduct a “full public curiosity assessment and investigation of the Northeast Alliance cooperative settlement.”
“I’m involved that the Northeast Alliance is strictly the form of association that has led us so far and that may result in even additional consolidation in an already overly concentrated business,” Blumenthal continued. “Below the circumstances, this association deserves extra scrutiny.”
A JetBlue spokesperson informed Reuters stated the partnership with American might assist the carriers compete with Delta and United on routes out and in of the Northeast. The airline stated it plans to decrease fares to stimulate demand within the area.
