A 43-year-old man attacked New York Republican gubernatorial nominee Rep. Lee Zeldin at an upstate marketing campaign occasion Thursday night.
Zeldin was not harmed within the incident, which occurred as he was talking exterior a Veterans of Overseas Wars put up in Fairport, a village close to Rochester, NBC Information reported.
Zeldin mentioned he grabbed the attacker’s wrist and stopped him for a number of moments earlier than others tackled the person.
The attacker, recognized by three senior legislation enforcement officers as David Jakubonis of Fairport, was subdued by members of the viewers after he charged Zeldin, WHEC-TV reported.
That NBC affiliate reported that viewers members disarmed the person, and put him in zip-ties that had been pulled from marketing campaign posters.

Zeldin, who represents a congressional district in Suffolk County, Lengthy Island, is campaigning to unseat Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat.
Hochul in a tweet wrote: “Relieved to listen to that Congressman Zeldin was not injured and that the suspect is in custody.”
“I condemn this violent conduct within the strongest phrases doable — it has no place in New York,” Hochul tweeted.
