Pay Timely Salaries To Healthcare Workers Engaged In COVID Treatment: Centre

New Delhi: The Centre on Thursday directed all states and union territories to make sure well timed fee of salaries to medical doctors and healthcare staff engaged in treating COVID-19 sufferers and warned of motion towards hospitals and authorities for non-compliance of the order.

The order by the Union Well being Ministry comes a day after the Supreme Courtroom requested the Centre to subject instructions to states for fee of salaries and offering crucial quarantine services to medical doctors and healthcare staff concerned in treating COVID-19 sufferers.

The federal government had informed the court docket it could subject the mandatory instructions.

“…it is hereby directed that the states and UT administration should ensure that salaries of doctors and health workers doing COVID-19 related duty shall be released on time,” the order issued by Union well being secretary Preeti Sudan learn.

“The Chief Secretary of the states/UTs should ensure compliance of this order by all concerned, violation of which will be treated as an offence under the Disaster Management Act read with the IPC, and action taken accordingly against defaulting hospitals/institutions/ authorities,” the order stated.

The apex court docket issued the order on Wednesday whereas listening to a plea filed by a personal physician elevating questions on the Centre’s Might 15 determination that 14-day quarantine was not obligatory for medical doctors.

Physician Arushi Jain, in her petition filed by means of advocates Mithu Jain and Arjun Syal, had alleged that frontline healthcare staff engaged within the battle towards COVID-19 had been both not being paid salaries or their wages had been being reduce or delayed.
