ISRO Scientist Sarat Dash Speaks On What Possibly Went Wrong With Lander Vikram

Bengaluru: After shedding contact with Chandrayaan-2 lander Vikram throughout its descend on Moon’s floor on Saturday, head of element high quality assurance division of ISRO, Sarat Sprint, has shed some mild on what might be the potential motive behind the malfunctioning.

Sprint, who hails from Odisha, mentioned that the thrusters (engines) might have malfunctioned severely affecting the soundness of lander Vikram.

“The thrusters on board were switched on just before its landing, but this situation arose because of some malfunction in them. Lack of coordination between four thrusters seem to be the reason behind Vikram’s veering off its assigned path and subsequent crash landing on moon,” added Sprint.

Lander Vikram, which was purported to land softly on the lunar floor veered off its designated path following which the Mission Management Room at Bengaluru misplaced all contacts with it simply 2.1 kilometers above the lunar floor.

In the meantime, ISRO sources have confirmed that the lander has been discovered on the lunar floor and efforts are being made to re-establish contact with it.
