Legitimacy by staying in energy | Hromadske Radio – Ukraine

Writing on the web site of Hromadske Radio, political scientist Ilya Kusa sees a definite risk of Western states recognising the Taliban authorities:

“Within the 1990s, three international locations formally recognised the ‘Taliban’ and opened their embassies in Kabul: Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Within the West, this can be harder in view of public opinion, opposition and criticism. … But when the Taliban retain energy and maintain the guarantees they’ve made to date, that will already be sufficient for them to be recognised by Western international locations and achieve a minimum of partial legitimacy overseas.”
