Debate: Russia: behind the scenes because the elections loom

Dagens Nyheter makes clear why Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny poses such a menace to Putin regardless of his imprisonment:

“One may ask why Putin is so afraid of Navalny, and why authoritarian programs trouble to fake to carry elections in any respect. There isn’t a discernible menace to Putin’s energy proper now. However all tyrants yearn for some type of formal legitimacy. Furthermore, there’s rising dissatisfaction with the established order and the declining way of life. And the prevalence of corruption is fuelling despair amongst residents. ‘Ultimately, this error will probably be fastened, and Russia will transfer on to a democratic, European path of improvement – just because that’s what the individuals need,’ mentioned Navalny. And that’s exactly what Putin fears.”
