Ex-Prime Minister Borisov must swallow this bitter tablet, feedback columnist Ivaylo Dichev on Deutsche Welle’s Bulgarian service:
“I believe it’s acceptable to congratulate Mr Borisov on the very tough compromise he has agreed to, or probably been pressured into. … He in all probability already regrets the brave step he took in nominating Ms Gabriel. He has inadvertently positioned himself between two fronts – on the one hand, the [conservative EU Parliament group] EPP, which, so far as I do know, is fiercely wooing its bride Gabriel, and alternatively his personal Gerb celebration, the place she is moderately unpopular. I do not see him as a crafty Machiavelli on a white horse, who nonetheless pulls all of the strings, however as a confused, cornered, frightened man who has realised that his time is up.”
