Citizenship Bill Introduced In LS Amid Opposition’s Objection

New Delhi: The federal government on Monday launched the controversial Citizenship (Modification) Invoice, 2019 within the Lok Sabha regardless of objection raised by the opposition events calling the transfer “fundamentally unconstitutional” and “violation” of Article 14 of the Indian structure and others.

He mentioned that the Invoice seeks to offer Indian nationality to Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Parsis, Jains and Buddhists fleeing persecution in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

The Minister mentioned that the Invoice has been launched after analyzing the structure of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

Referring to the Nehru-Liaquat settlement signed in 1950 after the partition of India and Pakistan, Shah mentioned it was agreed to guard the rights of minorities however solely India adopted it however Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Parsis, Jains and Buddhists confronted atrocities in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

“The Bill is for those minorities who faced religious persecution in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.”

The Minister clarified because the Muslim group was not persecuted within the three Islamic nations, the Invoice particularly mentions to offer citizenship to 6 non secular persecuted minorities.

“The people of the six minority communities who migrated to India following religious persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan will be given Indian citizenship as per this Bill. They are being given citizenship on the basis of reasonable classification. The Bill does not violate Article 14 of the Indian Constitution.”
