Centre Asks States & UTs To Take Strict Action Against Those Who Harass People From Northeast Linking Them To COVID-19

The Union Residence Ministry has taken be aware of the instances of harassment of individuals from Northeast states by linking them to COVID-10 after the prevalence of coronavirus within the nation and requested the police in all States and Union Territories to take applicable motion when these instances are reported.

In an advisory despatched to chief secretaries and police chiefs of all States and Union Territories on Saturday, the ministry of residence affairs stated, “It has come to notice of the Ministry that people from the Northeast have been facing harassment after the occurrence of COVID-19 in the country. There have been cases where people of Northeast including the athletes and sportspersons have been harassed by linking them to COVID-19.”

“This is racially discriminatory, inconvenient and painful to them,” the house ministry stated.

It additionally requested all legislation enforcement companies within the states and Union Territories to take applicable motion in instances of harassment when these are reported.

Earlier on Sunday, a lawyer and social activist Alana Golmei shared photographs of a Manipuri lady who was attacked in Delhi’s North Campus space. The lady alleged that she was on her method to purchase groceries when a person got here on a two-wheeler and spat on her. He known as her “corona” earlier than fleeing the spot. The incident occurred on Sunday evening at round 10 pm in Vijay Nagar.

A criticism has been filed in opposition to the person by the Delhi Police.
