RSAF tanker-transport airplane will head to Qatar to ferry Afghanistan evacuees to Germany
SINGAPORE: A Republic of Singapore Air Power (RSAF) tanker-transport airplane will depart for Qatar on Thursday night time (Aug 26) to assist with the US evacuation of Afghans.
The RSAF A330 multi-role tanker transport (MRTT) will switch Afghanistan evacuees presently relocated in Qatar to Germany or different receiving international locations, the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) stated in a press release on Thursday.
The MRTT shall be used to ferry almost 200 evacuees from Al Udeid Air Base, situated southwest of Doha, to a different base in Germany, stated Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen.
“(The MRTT is) going to depart right here tonight, attain Qatar, choose up these evacuees, after which go onward to Germany, all in 21 hours,” he added.
“It will haven’t been attainable with our older plane. And from Germany, they are going to do like a airplane loop from Germany to Al Udeid, forwards and backwards, to carry as many evacuees as they will.”
